Twin Filter Skid
Project Summary
Fluid handling systems often require multiple components working together. Filters. Pumps. Motors. Controls. Instrumentation. When these components are mounted separately, installation becomes complex, piping runs become lengthy, and the system occupies more space than necessary—creating maintenance headaches and inefficiencies. Fluidline Services needed a twin filter skid that would integrate all the necessary components into a single, transportable package that arrives ready to connect. We fabricated the skid to their proven design, creating a complete filtration system where filters, motor, electrical cabinet, and gauges are professionally integrated on a platform that can be moved by crane or forklift without disassembly.
This integrated approach transforms what could be a complex installation project into a straightforward equipment placement operation. The skid arrives as a complete system—all components are mounted, positioned correctly, and ready for connection to the facility’s fluid handling infrastructure without extensive field assembly. The installation process becomes simpler, faster, and less prone to errors than assembling the same components from separate pieces that need to be positioned, aligned, and connected in the field.
Integrated System Design
The skid accommodates two filters. Increased capacity. Redundancy. Twin filter arrangements allow continuous operation even when one filter needs servicing—fluid flow can be directed through one filter while the other is being changed or maintained without shutting down operations. This redundancy is valuable in applications where shutting down for filter changes would disrupt operations and cost money in lost production.
The motor mounts on a dedicated platform with secure fastening and appropriate positioning for driving the filtration system efficiently. The motor mounting accounts for vibration—motors vibrate, that’s reality—providing secure attachment that won’t loosen from continuous operation over months and years. The positioning allows access for maintenance while keeping the motor protected and properly integrated with the system rather than exposed or awkwardly positioned.
The electrical cabinet houses the controls and electrical components that manage the filtration system. Starters. Controls. Protection devices. The cabinet is positioned for operator access while being protected from the operating environment where fluids, dust, or other contaminants could cause problems. Cable entry provisions allow clean routing of electrical connections between the cabinet, motor, and other system components without exposed wiring. The integration ensures the electrical system is organized and protected rather than being exposed or improvised with temporary connections.
Gauges are mounted in visible positions where operators can easily monitor system performance without climbing or contorting. Pressure gauges. Flow indicators. Other instrumentation. Positioned for clear reading without requiring operators to reach into hazardous areas or contort themselves to see readings that are critical for safe operation. The gauge mounting integrates with the piping system, providing accurate readings while maintaining clean, professional appearance that reflects well on the facility.
Dual Handling Capability
The skid features both crane lifting and forklift handling provisions. Flexibility. Different installation scenarios. The crane lifting points are positioned for balanced lifting of the complete assembly with all components installed—not empty weight, but fully loaded operational weight. When the skid needs to be lifted to height or moved significant distances during installation or relocation, crane handling provides the appropriate capability without risking damage.
The forklift pockets enable positioning and short-distance transport using standard forklifts that are available at most industrial facilities. This handling method is practical for moving the skid within facilities, positioning it precisely for installation where millimeters matter, or relocating it if facility layouts change over time. The pockets are spaced appropriately for standard forklift tines—not custom spacing—and reinforced to handle the concentrated loads that occur during forklift operations without deforming.
This dual handling capability means the skid can be moved efficiently using whatever equipment is available and appropriate for the specific situation without requiring specialized handling equipment. The flexibility supports various installation scenarios without requiring specialized handling equipment that might not be available when needed.
Complete Package Benefits
The integrated skid package provides significant advantages over assembling components separately in ways that affect both installation and ongoing operations. Installation time is reduced because components don’t need to be individually positioned and connected—they arrive already integrated. The piping between components is integrated into the skid, reducing the field piping work required and eliminating potential leak points. The electrical connections between motor and cabinet are completed during skid fabrication, simplifying field electrical work and reducing installation errors.
The compact integration reduces the floor space required for the filtration system significantly. All components are positioned efficiently on the skid rather than being spread across a larger area with piping runs between them. This space efficiency is valuable in facilities where floor space is limited or expensive—every square meter matters in industrial facilities.
The professional integration creates a clean, organized appearance that reflects well on the facility and its management. Rather than having components scattered and connected with improvised piping and wiring that looks temporary, the integrated skid presents a professional, engineered solution. This appearance matters in facilities where clients, inspectors, or management visit—the equipment reflects the facility’s overall professionalism and attention to quality in ways that affect perception.
Proven Design Fabrication
We fabricated this skid to Fluidline Services’ existing design. Their experience. Their knowledge. The design has been proven in service, and our role was to manufacture it precisely to ensure the finished skid would perform as expected without surprises. This approach combines Fluidline’s application knowledge with our fabrication expertise, creating equipment that serves their customers reliably without requiring extensive development or testing.
The twin filter skid we delivered provides Fluidline Services with a complete, integrated filtration system that simplifies installation while providing the capacity, redundancy, and professional appearance their fluid handling applications require. The crane and forklift handling capability ensures the skid can be positioned efficiently wherever needed, while the integrated design reduces installation complexity and creates a professional, space-efficient solution that works reliably in demanding fluid handling applications.
