Food-Grade Stainless Fabrication in Perth

Elite Engineering WA specializes in stainless steel fabrication and welding for food, beverage, pharmaceutical, marine, and industrial applications throughout Perth and Western Australia.

We work with 304 and 316 stainless steel grades, delivering corrosion-resistant, hygienic solutions for industries where contamination matters — breweries, dairy plants, food processors, wineries, marine operations, and chemical processing facilities across WA. All stainless steel welding is completed to AS/NZS 1554.6 (the Australian Standard for welding stainless steels), with full material traceability and weld documentation.

304 vs 316 Stainless — Choosing the Right Grade

We'll recommend the best grade for your application and budget

Grade Best For Key Properties
304 Stainless Food processing, dairy, breweries, indoor kitchens, general fabrication Good corrosion resistance, cost-effective, excellent for food-contact surfaces, easy to weld
316 Marine Grade Marine environments, coastal applications, chemical processing, saltwater exposure Molybdenum addition for superior corrosion resistance, saltwater resistant, preferred for coastal Perth projects
Duplex (2205) High-stress structural applications, mining, oil & gas Twice the yield strength of 304/316, excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance

Not sure which grade you need? Tell us about your application — we'll specify the right stainless steel for the job. For coastal Perth projects within 10 km of the coast, 316 is almost always the right call.

Our Stainless Steel Capabilities

Specialised fabrication and welding for stainless applications

Precision TIG Welding

Argon-purged TIG welding for clean, penetration-controlled stainless joints. Back purging on pipe welds to prevent sugaring on the root side. Backing gas and trailing shields for thick sections.

Food-Grade Finishes

Electropolishing, passivation, and #4 brushed finishes for food-contact surfaces. All welds ground smooth with no crevices for bacteria buildup — compliant with food hygiene standards.

Material Traceability

Mill certificates, material test reports, and positive material identification (PMI) available. Full documentation for audit compliance in food, pharma, and marine sectors.

Industries We Serve in WA

Stainless steel solutions for Perth's key sectors

Food & Beverage Processing

Western Australia's food processing sector runs on stainless steel. We fabricate tanks, conveyor frames, workbenches, and process equipment for dairy producers, meat processors, bakeries, and food packaging facilities throughout Perth. Every food-grade fabrication meets hygienic design principles — no hollow sections, fully welded joints, and smooth surface finishes that wash down clean.

Breweries & Wineries

WA's craft brewery and wine industry continues to grow. We've built fermentation tanks, bright beer transfer lines, CIP (clean-in-place) systems, and custom racking for breweries and wineries across the state. Stainless steel resists the acidic environments of fermentation and cleaning chemicals — and our TIG welds are smooth enough that nothing sticks.

Marine & Coastal

Perth's coastal environment demands 316 marine-grade stainless. We fabricate boat rails, mooring hardware, davits, and custom marine fittings for the WA marine industry. Saltwater corrosion is the enemy — our welding procedures ensure the weld metal matches the base alloy's corrosion resistance so there's no weak point at the joint.

Chemical & Pharmaceutical

Chemical processing and pharmaceutical manufacturing rely on stainless steel for its chemical resistance and cleanability. We build vessel internals, mixing equipment, transfer piping, and structural supports with full material documentation. Passivation and electropolishing services available through our finishing partners.

Our Stainless Steel Fabrication Process

From material selection to finished product

01

Consultation & Grade Selection

We review your application requirements — environment, chemical exposure, hygiene standards — and recommend the right stainless grade and finish.

02

Design & CNC Cutting

CAD drawings, section sizing, and template development. Stainless sheet and plate cut on our CNC plasma with dedicated tooling to prevent galvanic contamination from mild steel.

03

TIG Welding

Dedicated stainless welding bay — no cross-contamination with ferrous metals. Argon-purged TIG with matched filler wires. Back purging on pipe and tube welds.

04

Finishing & Passivation

Weld blending to specified finish (#3, #4, or mirror). Pickling and passivation to restore the chromium oxide layer. Electropolishing available through partners.

05

Inspection & Delivery

Final inspection for finish quality and dimensional accuracy. Material certs and weld documentation supplied. Delivery to site or collection from our Forrestdale workshop.

Stainless Steel Fabrication — Common Questions

304 stainless is cost-effective and works well for food processing, indoor fabrication, and general applications. 316 marine-grade stainless contains molybdenum, which gives it significantly better corrosion resistance — making it the right choice for anything within 10 km of the Perth coast, chemical processing, or marine applications. If in doubt for a Perth project, go 316. The price difference is marginal compared to the cost of premature corrosion failure.

Yes — we fabricate stainless steel tanks, vessels, workbenches, transfer lines, and process equipment for the food and beverage industry. All welds are ground smooth with no crevices, hollow sections are fully sealed, and we can supply electropolished or passivated finishes through our finishing partners. Full material traceability with mill test certificates supplied standard.

Yes — our Forrestdale workshop has a dedicated stainless steel fabrication bay. This prevents cross-contamination from mild steel swarf and grinding dust, which can embed in stainless surfaces and cause surface rust later. We also use dedicated cutting discs, grinding wheels, and wire brushes for stainless-only work.

Stainless steel is primarily TIG welded (GTAW) for clean, controlled results with minimal heat input. We use argon shielding and back purging on pipe welds to prevent oxidation on the root side. For thicker sections, we can also use MIG (GMAW) with stainless wire — though the finish is rougher and requires more grinding. Filler wire is matched to the base alloy grade.

Yes — mill test certificates (MTC) are supplied as standard with all stainless steel fabrication. These document the exact chemical composition and mechanical properties of the material batch used. For audit-intensive industries (pharmaceutical, food processing, oil & gas), we can also arrange positive material identification (PMI) testing where a handheld XRF analyser verifies the alloy composition on-site.
